Why using of sanitary pad is still considered taboo in India

In my previous blog motherhood is a gift you would have read about the health of a woman during pregnancy and how should she have to take care of her child.

Not only during pregnancy, a woman undergoes several changes including body changes from the age of 10-13 to reach a menopause stage at the age of 45-50 years.

1. Hormonal imbalance affects on body morphology.

2. Every girl has her own schedule of preparing for her first period.

Many women does not have any much issues with menstruation, but some women experience symptoms before menstruation called as Premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Symptoms of PMS are.

1. Change in sleeping pattern

2. Bloating (a build of gas in the stomach and intestine)

3. Mood swings

4. Head aches.

India has a population of 125 crores with women aged from 10 to 45 years comprises about 32 crore of which 82% of women does not use the sanitary pad or do not have access to it.

Due to which many women lose their lives by deadly disease.

Before the invention of sanitary pads, cloths or cotton wool were used for the collection of menstrual blood.

Also the use of various fabrics or other absorbent material such as chalk, charcoal or in worst cases soil and saw dust where used by women.

These methods were not only unhealthy but may lead to life threatening disease.

In India over 70% of all reproductive disease are caused by poor menstrual hygiene and also it affect maternal mortality.

Why only 18% women use sanitary napkin?

1. High cost

The brands available in the market are too costly to afford for a woman in India.

single pad would cost around 8-12 rupees and would cost around 150-200 for the pack of five.

The minimum daily wage of an Indian by NFLMW is 160 rupees per day.

2. Family awareness

Still there are millions of families were the menstrual cycle is not considered normal.

"menstrual is not created by a woman herself, it is a natural process which occurs in every women’s body in her lifetime"

And for those who believe it is impure then they should know that "god created a process through which a baby is born which cannot be called impure"

3. Women awareness

Before considering parameters like high cost, family awareness a woman should be made aware, such that by using age old method she might get affected by deadly disease and can also lead to health problems.

4. TV broadcasters.

simple thing they can do is during an advertisement instead of blue colour as a stain they should use red colour so that awareness will be more effective and even an illiterate woman can understand what the advertisement is about.

The main reason why only 18% of women use sanitary pads is

"In India they don't talk about menstrual hygiene they feel shy talking about it."

- Steps to increase the population of women using sanitary pads.

1. Spreading awareness.
2. Cost reduction per pad.
3. Ease of availability of the pad.
4. The pad should be easily disposable.
5. Government should take initiative for awareness and availability of pads to the women in need.

1. 24 million women dropout from high school because of in availability of sanitary pads.

2. 90% of women aged 15-24 use rag clothes during menstrual.

3. 10% of girls in India believe menstruation is a disease.

4. 87% of the women and girls are unaware about menstruation and do not have any knowledge about the purpose of menstruation as a biological process.

5. 75% of the girls do not know what to use to control the flow.

6. 41% of teens hide their cloth in room, 22% in the roof and 11% share with others.

Here are some of the websites where you can get pads at 2-3 rupees per pad and also you can help other women by buying the sanitary pad in bulk and selling them at the same price to them because they do not have access to the web.

87% of the women and girls are unaware about menstruation and do not have any knowledge about the purpose of menstruation as a biological process.

The farmers have been the strength of our country since time immemorial. They are a big source of economy to our country. And we should not ignore the fact that politicians are using it as a tool, may beNDA or the UPA government both were unsuccessful in there promise.Someamount of load can be reduced on the farmer by waving loan on them but this will only satisfy the short-term problem due to the fact that the farmer will againtake the loan after someamount of years the real solution is to modernise the agriculture viz: knowledge about the native and exotic species of crops, new irrigation methods(Ex.Drip irrigation) cold storage facility, safe and efficient transport system, and special care should be taken during Monsoon seasons. NGO's shouldbesetup at every taluka to ensure that the guidelinesshould be followed.83 crore farmers depend on there farmlands and also the factshouldnot be ignored that major GDP contribution is done by agricultural sectors and most of the development…
